Lifelong AIDS Alliance is a non-profit agency committed to preventing the spread of HIV, and to providing practical support services and advocating for those whose lives are affected by HIV and AIDS.
DEFINITION:
The AIDS Walk Team Recruiter (WTR) is responsible for recruitment, development and ongoing support of walk teams for the 2010 Seattle AIDS Walk & Run. Duties of WTR include building and maintaining relationships with all small business and community teams and their team captains, ultimately increasing the number of teams and amount of funds raised by the teams. This includes work with small businesses, local bars and restaurants, churches, community groups, student programs, and family supporters. WTR will work to enhance team captain knowledge of Lifelong and our programs to help them better understand and support the AIDS Walk and Lifelong’s mission. This position reports to the Director of Events & Volunteers and the Community Relations Coordinator. The WTR is a temporary contract position, 32 hours per week.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist with the recruitment and coordination of community-based fundraising teams.
- Help develop and implement team recruitment strategies.
- Help develop and execute a team captain communication strategy and schedule.
- Initiate and maintain relationships with team captains to strengthen their relationships with the event.
- Develop a network within the teams’ organizations for recruiting, motivating and acknowledging individual team member participation.
- Assist with developing and implementing a program to train team captains in organizing, recruiting and motivating team members for their AIDS Walk teams.
- Coordinate team informational materials and event collateral distribution to team captains.
- Collaborate with Events Team to contact area businesses and schedule, coordinate and/or conduct presentations promoting Seattle AIDS Walk.
- Collaborate with Events Team to coordinate and schedule a get-together to provide team captains an opportunity to share ideas and build excitement about the event.
- Coordinate fundraising and outreach events in bars and restaurants throughout the summer months.
- Manage the ‘Jars in Bars’ outreach program to raise AIDS Walk funds and awareness through local businesses.
- Utilize volunteers and Events Intern(s) to support team relations and grassroots outreach.
- Provide team support on the day of the event, including team registration.
- Create and maintain related electronic and paper files.
- Perform all other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- College degree in Marketing, Communications, English, Business, Government, or equivalent professional experience.
- Fundraising and/or outreach experience
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to work efficiently to meet tight deadlines
- Comfortable using telephone as primary mode of communication.
- Proficient in computer software including: Word, Outlook and Excel. Some database experience preferable as well as Internet-based team management tools.
- Experience and proven ability working within the corporate sector.
- Willingness to experience working within the community sector
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Able to work a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends, when necessary.
- Able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
- Reliable transportation required.
- Comfortable working in a diverse environment, including working with people of varying socioeconomic backgrounds, sexual orientations and gender identities.
COMMITMENT TIMELINE:
This position is temporary and will need a commitment of May 17, 2010 through October 15, 2010.
COMPENSATION:
Position starts at $15/hour, DOE, with no benefits.
