Supreme Court Ruling: Health Care for All
On Thursday, June 28, the Supreme Court of the United States upheld the Patient Protection Affordable Care Act that was passed in March 2010. People living with HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions will now be able to achieve greatly improved health outcomes through access to physical and mental healthcare and other needed services. This is the most exciting societal achievement since the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
Lifelong will play a major role in how health care reform is implemented in Washington State, and we are busy preparing for the roll out of this important initiative to ensure that people living with HIV are able to access care.
The importance of health care for all has been a guiding principle for Lifelong’s work since our beginnings. We are utilizing our expertise in serving the HIV/AIDS community to reach a broader audience and, as a result, have recently adopted a new organizational mission statement. The timing of our new mission statement couldn’t be better.
Lifelong AIDS Alliance empowers people living with or at risk of HIV/AIDS and other chronic conditions to lead healthier lives.
This will allow Lifelong to play an integral role through our nationally recognized “food as medicine” program, Chicken Soup Brigade, as well as to address prevention, linkage to care, care coordination, access to treatment, and reductions in chronic communicable infectious diseases. This is an exciting outcome for the entire community and especially those living with or at risk of HIV infection.
And on the heels of all of this exciting news, we launched this new website on Friday, and are excited to share it with clients, friends, community partners, donors, and volunteers. Our goal with the redesign is to provide you with the information you need to engage with us and to do so easily.
If you have any questions or comments about the site, our new mission statement, or Lifelong’s role in health care reform, please let us know. We want to be a resource for you, as the HIV landscape is changing so much.
Enjoy our new website. We hope to see you at one of our upcoming events, like Gay Bingo or the Seattle AIDS Walk.
Respectfully yours,
Randall H. Russell
Chief Executive Officer, Lifelong AIDS Alliance
